    Synopsis

I Can't Get Over It directly addresses survivors of trauma. It explains the nature of SD and describes the healing process. This book will help you find out whether you have PTSD; cope with post-traumatic anger, grief, and survivor guilt; recognize related problems such as depression, substance abuse, compulsive behavior, and low self-esteem; identify "triggers" that set off flashbacks, anxiety attacks, and other symptoms; relieve wounding caused by others' blaming and insensitivity; and gain a sense of empowerment and hope for the future.

    Annotation

"...explains how those affected with post-traumatic stress disorder can begin the healing process."

November 20, 2001: The book, 'I Can't Get Over It,' covers just about any traumatic situation you could go through. It emphasizes in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and although PTSD was for what they used to describe the surviving veterans, its also used in this book to help victims of abuse, and people that they lost close to them to abuse or some traumatic accident. Its very helpful because it has clear explanations and questionaires on various subjects that just about anyone could relate to.

September 23, 2000: As an adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I can speak with authority when I say that this book is excellent for PTSD sufferers. With every chapter I am learning something new and with knowledge comes power and the ability to have more control over many aspects of my life that I never had before and I owe it to the author of this book. I am grateful to Dr. Matsakis for writing a book specifically for people like me. She has shown me not only why I do the things I do but explains how I can change the things I want to change or accept and appreciate the things I can't. The book is very easy to read and understand and the questionaires and exercises are helpful and informative. I suggest to anyone wanting to read it, use a highlighter to outline specific points of interest, it comes in handy for future reference.
