      Synopsis

I am a bunny. My name is Nicholas. I live in a hollow tree.

In the spring, Nicholas likes to sniff the flowers, and in the summer, watch the frogs in the pond. In the fall, he watches the animals getting ready for winter, and in winter, watches the snow falling from the sky. This beautifully illustrated, gentle story is one of Golden’s most beloved titles.

      Marilyn Courtot - Children's Literature

The fully clothed bunny in this tale is enjoying the delights of the seasons. He likes to pick the flowers and chase butterflies in the spring. When summer comes, he enjoys relaxing in the sun watching the birds under a blue sky filled with puffy white clouds. He is a tiny bunny because when it rains, he takes shelter under a toadstool while his friend the frog glories in the rain. In the fall he watches the leaves swirl to the ground and the other animals gathering food for the cold days ahead. When it finally snows, this bunny heads for home and a snooze in his nest in a tree and dreams of spring. The bunny dresses and acts like a kid, but seems to own only one outfit that he wears all year long. Very young children won't care that much, but there is nothing particularly exciting about this little romp through the seasons. 2004 (orig. 1963), Golden Books/Random House, Ages 1 to 2.
