    Synopsis

Book five in the House of Night young adult vampyre series.

    School Library Journal

    Gr 9 Up

Mother-daughter writing team P.C. and Kristin Cast open up a whole new chapter in Zoey Redbird's complicated life with their fifth "House of Night" novel (St. Martin's Press, 2009). Zoey is a powerful fledging who is training for her conversion to vampyrism at a private boarding school. Zoey and her circle are currently battling evil high priestess Neferet and fallen angel Kalona, who have taken over the Oklahoma House of Night. She is also dealing with power struggles among the other fledglings along with the usual teenage angst that accompanies multiple boyfriends. The plot is zingy and so, for the most part, is the dialogue. The authors go out of their way to recap previous events, which is great for listeners new to the series, but may be annoying to those who already know the back story. They also unnecessarily emphasize gay characters by attaching the adjective "gay" to all of their actions. Narrator Jenna Lamia does a good job, giving each character a distinctive voice and personality, especially Stevie Rae's Oklahoma twang and Aphrodite's very bored delivery. Teens who like vampire stories, romantic triangles, and the backbiting of Gossip Girl will find this title very satisfying.-Charli Osborne, Oxford Public Library, MI

November 22, 2009: unted By P.C. Cast Kristin Cast

Hunted by P.C. Cast Kristin Cast is a book telling about the return of Kalona. He's a fallen angle from heaven, which is because he chose bad over good. While Kalona was in heaven, he started to have relationships with young women. Soon after he had a few relationships, he got obsessed with having sex. Now, Kalona believes that Zoey Redbird was meant to love him. But Zoey knows that Kalona is pure evil, which of course doesn't fall for him. Through out the rest of the great book, Zoey and her friends (Damien, Jack, Erin, Shaunee, Aphrodite, Darius, Stevie Rae, and Erik) find out more information about Kalona and ways to defeat him. Soon also Neferet becomes a problem. Zoey discovers Neferet has become more powerful than Kalona. After a few days of this madness, Zoey uses her gifts from the goddess, and as well her friends too, to chase away Kalona, Neferet, and Raven Mockers, which are Kalona's sons. Raven Mockers are half bird and half human.

I think this book has suspense, excitement, and romance. You feel suspense when Zoey confronts Neferet and Kalona. Then you're excited to find out what Zoey Redbird and her friends do next. In this book you will also find romance between Zoey and Erik Night, he's an adult vampire. Zoey also gets back with Heath, the human guy. I loved this book, and recommend this book to people who like all of the above plus also people who like horror.

November 11, 2009: Alright, well it's pretty safe to say that I am a house of night addict. All of the books before this were drastically wonderful. This book was no different. I loved the amazing use of new vocabulary. Zoey has a style all her own and it definitely shows in this book, just as it has shown through in all the others. I short, this book is probably one of the best books I'll ever read. I would definitely suggest this book to vamp lovers all over the world. <3
