Synopsis

How to Draw and Paint Dragons shows you how to create awesome, delightful and frightening beasts, armed only with a pencil and ink pen. You’ll begin your quest by conquering a super-easy dragon that even the most foolish of ogres could draw. You’ll forge onward to discover simple secrets and spiffy tricks for making creatures friendly or fierce, sorrowful or cynical… drawing them from all different perspectives, in flight or at rest (so vain, those dragons – they love to strike a pose!). You’ll also learn how to incorporate various details to make each beast original.

December 10, 2007: Usually, 'How to Draw and/or Paint' books go one of two ways - completely detailed and hard to learn from or 'cartoony' and over-stylized. Jessica 'NeonDragon' Peffer has acheived a wonderful balance of both. I particularly enjoyed her cover of both eastern and western dragons, and teaching of two different shading techniques. Writing the book from the perspective of a dragon itself, namely her wyvern companion, gave the book a comical flair while giving a good perspective on things. Wonderful to just read, and even better to learn from. As a personal artist an a person with an affinity for dragons, I applaud the authoress' work. I highly recommend it.
