    Biography

    Preston Gralla is the award-winning author of 20 books, including

    How Wireless Works, How To Expand and Upgrade PCs, and The

    Complete Idiot’s Guide to Protecting Yourself Online. He is an executive

    editor and columnist for CNet and ZDNet; is a technology columnist

    for the Dallas Morning News; and has written about technology

    for many magazines and newspapers, including USA Today, PC

    Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, Boston Magazine, PC/Computing,

    Computerworld, and FamilyPC among many others. Gralla has won

    several writing and editing awards, including one from the

    Computer Press Association for the best feature article in a computer

    magazine.

     

    As a well-known expert on computers and the Internet, he has appeared

    frequently on numerous TV and radio shows and networks,

    including the CBS Early Show, CNN, National Public Radio’s All

    Things Considered, MSNBC, CNBC, TechTV, and CNet Radio.

    He was the founding managing editor of the well-known newspaper

    PC Week and a founding editor of PC/Computing. Under his editorship,

    PC/Computing was a finalist for General Excellence from the

    National Magazine Awards.

    How the Internet Works is one of a series called the How It Works Series. From the name you can easily see the content of this book. The author Preston Gralla, begin with the basic content of the Internet like ¿What is the Internet¿ and goes on to the complex content like ¿How Parental Controls Work,¿ covering topics such as Internet's underlying architecture, how to use the Internet and some security issues.

    CHAPTER CONTENT
    This book has 52 chapters which are divided into 9 parts. Part 1 explains the Internet 's underlying architecture, Part 2 teaches the Internet connections, Part 3 shows Internet communication works, Part4 describes how the world wide web works, Part 5 to Part8 introduces how Internet applications work, basic content from the world wide web to complex content Internet shopping. And the last part
    tells how to protect ourself on the Internet.

    USEFUL AND EASY-TO-UNDERSTAND
    How the Internet Works can serve the users from beginning levels to intermediate. Even readers have no much knowledge of the Internet, after reading this book will understand the Internet very well. If readers are familiar with the Internet, can also find something they did not know before, and understand the Internet better.
