      Synopsis

On Jill Morgan Storm's fortieth birthday, she declares she is through with love. A conviction well justified, considering her first husband didn't leave her for another woman; he became one! More recently, her love affair came to a screeching halt when her lover dumped her for a young undergraduate. To make matters worse, the teeny-bopper stole Jill's "well-seasoned" frying pan, and when you're a sous chef, that's no small offense; it's a major felony.

When financial obligations threaten her son's dream of attending art school, Jill and her friends devise a foolproof plan to audition candidates for a new husband. The search for Mr. Right is on.

There is one problem, however. His name is Davin Wesley, an annoying third-grade schoolteacher, who relentlessly plagues her days, haunts her nights, and propels her libido into overdrive. She knows he is absolutely, undeniably wrong for her. So why, then, does Mr. Wrong take her breath away, curl her toes, and give her a hot flash every time she sees him? More importantly, what will she do if Mr. Wrong is actually Mr. Right?

December 26, 2008: In Las Vegas, La Papillon sous chef Jill Morgan Storm turns forty today. After rescuing a kitchen helper form the chef and the freezer, the single mom celebrates her milestone with friends when she decides she needs a husband right now, but only for a week. Her first marriage failed and since the divorce she has not met anyone whom she is attracted to until now. Ignoring her heart, her brain insists she marry a traveling salesman. He would bring in needed money to send her son Stephen to college without the albatross of a monster student loan while only requiring satisfaction one week each month; three weeks on the road sounds perfect to Jill. He would also provide cover from breast grabber Chef Radkin.

However there is one major obstacle to Jill's perfect plan, schoolteacher Davin Wesley. He wants her and she is attracted to him. However, he is home four weeks out of a month, which makes his demands on her perpetual. On the other hand his kisses melt her brain. Years with no one activating her libido and now that she has the plan, he shows up keeping her in constant heat.

This lighthearted amusing romp contains amiable characters especially the lead couple supported by eccentrics at the restaurant, school and family. Mother and son are a dynamic duo who seems to land in one amusing situation after another especially since Davin enters the relationship. Although somewhat too frivolous, contemporary romance fans who want plenty of laughs will enjoy the frolics of HOT FLASH.

October 26, 2008: Jill Morgan Storm has hit 40 years old with a bang! Evaluating her life, she realizes that she's divorced, has a satisfactory job with a drunk Master Chef over her and whose job she's been covering for almost four years, a son who barely speaks to her, a need to find tuition money for that son's college years and no love life at all in the offing. So what exactly does Jill do to solve these motley seemingly insolvable dilemmas? With the assistance of her cherished friends, she comes up with a survey which she sends to actual couples who have advertised their marriage success. What's the key that makes it all click? Hilarious, hearty and shocking responses follow, printed at the beginning of each chapter, foreshadowing perhaps what is to come!

The search is on for sure! Jill's got one category of potential spouses in mind but what a motley crew she's about to meet. You'll meet Tony a.k.a. Easel Boy, a lovely gent who sports chiffon and glitter undies, a guy who freaks when Jill says she's not interested in having more children and finally you'll meet Davin Wesley who seems the least likely candidate in Jill's collection of potential suitors.

Jill's friends are as feisty as she is, with a propensity to fall back on loser ex-lovers and drink away their sorrows while conniving to help Jill meet the perfect man. Then of course, there's Jill's Mom, whose illusions or delusions, include matchmaking for Jill and throwing parties for her own marriage, minus the incarcerated Dad doing a stretch of time for an Enron-style scandal.

Hot Flash is funny and endearing, a light, warm read to lose one's self in during the cold fall and winter seasons! It's a romance waiting to happen that will amuse and delight many, many gals and guys who've "been there, done that!"

      Very nice, Ms. Carmichael!
