      Synopsis

Subtitled "The Simplest Seuss for Youngest Use," this book is perfect for teaching the rudiments of reading. Simple rhyming words, such as PUP and UP, are stacked one over the other in large capitals, so that readers see that "up" is contained in the word "pup." Sentences using these words are accompanied by humorous illustrations to complete the playful reading lesson.

      Annotation

Pairs of rhyming words are introduced and used in simple sentences, such as "Day. Play. We play all day. Night. Fight. We fight all night."

      Biography

It’s difficult to imagine the children’s book landscape without Dr. Seuss, who is, almost half a century after The Cat in the Hat, the best-recognized children’s book writer in the country. But until Dr. Seuss -- a.k.a. Theodor Seuss Geisel -- reinvented the genre with his colorful and exuberant Sneetches, Grinches, Zaxes, and Zooks, children’s books were often little more than literal-minded lessons and cautionary tales intended to transform young readers into productive citizens.

November 14, 2009: My 20 month old daughter loves this book. We have this version, and her grandparents have the full sized longer version so she gets this read to her all the time. Months ago she started saying "hop pop!" whenever she wanted to read this book. It's one of her favorites, and I love that the rhyming helps her learn the words.

November 11, 2009: My two-year-old grandson LOVES these smaller versions of Dr. Seuss classics. They are shorter so they hold his attention, the flow of the words is just as great and the pages are thicker like his other little books. Great for him to hold - he likes to take them in bed with him at nap time. They're the perfect alternative to the traditional Dr. Seuss books which are really geared for older children.
