The Valdes Greenwoods (a.k.a. the VGs) are a fairly ordinary family. They met in graduate school, married a few years later, bought a house and a dog, and adopted a child. But in this relationship memoir, Valdes Greenwood also writes of the fun he and his husband have checking out other guys together and the conscious choice each made to speak of his "husband" instead of his "spouse." Neither a sob story of discrimination nor an obvious effort to influence readers to accept gay marriage, this is merely an endearing story about a committed gay couple. Greenwood's humorous, honest, and personal voice makes him a great tour guide and friend through this look into his private life. However, he doesn't present his husband's personality as lucidly; the reader can develop a relationship with only one of the two main players. The couple's homosexuality provides just enough to make this a unique relationship tell-all, but the hook is not overused (save in the title). For larger public libraries.
