With his final breath he leaves Brooklyn a cryptic message, and gives her a pricelessand supposedly cursedcopy of Goethe's Faust for safekeeping.
Brooklyn suddenly finds herself accused of murder and theft, thanks to the humorlessbut attractiveBritish security officer who finds her kneeling over the body. Now she has to read the clues left behind by her mentor if she is going to restore justice...

April 13, 2009: I was disappointed. Maybe this is a mystery for 20-somethings. Found the setting, the character motivations, the climax and the murderer improbable. By the time the ending was revealed, I didn't care anymore. Did not find the heroine/ sleuth engaging or particularly likeable. Characters' quirks were grating, rather than charming or funny or provocative. While I love leather-bound books and was (initially) interested in how they are restored, I now know more than I wanted to know!
