    Synopsis

No one can resist the Devil Riders: four war heroes in search of one good woman.

Harry Morant's tough exterior hides a badly scarred heart. The natural son of an earl, high-born ladies have only one use for him-in the bedchamber. Now, after eight years at war, Harry is breeding racehorses and planning a practical, unemotional marriage. But when he buys a new estate, his careful plans are threatened by an unexpected passion for- of all things-an earl's daughter.

    Publishers Weekly

Australian author Gracie's second "Devil Riders" Regency romance (after The Stolen Princess) is a breezy diversion that follows the trials of Lady Helen ("just Nell") Freymore, a smart, tough woman fallen on hard times after her father bankrupts the family and loses their home in a card game. Harry Morant, an earl's wealthy bastard son, falls for Nell after seeing her sneak into the Freymore estate stables to help a mare through a difficult labor. In an effort to woo her, he buys the estate and offers her the chance to return home and help him to breed the horses she loves. Nell is not so much captive as captivated by Harry's charm, and fans of light romance will be drawn to this strong-willed couple and their steamy happily-ever-after tale. (Sept.)

November 12, 2008: I no longer read the synopsis on the back of these books, if it's by Anne Gracie, I know I'm going to like it. Within a few pages, I am totally hooked and this book was no exception. Any romance book has issues and villans and this is no exception. The difference in Anne Gracie's books, however, is that her main characters come to care about each other very early on in the story. Too many books have one abusing the other verbally or physically for 90% of the story and then, oops, they are in love the last 10 pages. Harry and Nell know very soon they are destined for each other and their feelings unfold throughout the book until the ending is both anticipated and satisfying.

I Also Recommend: Born in Sin, The Perfect Rake, The Perfect Waltz, Bride, Secret.

I highly recommend His Captive Ladyby Anonymous

August 27, 2008: The second book in Anne Gracie?s Devil Riders series is the story of Harry Morant and Lady Helen ?Nell? Freymore. Though born in wedlock to a housemaid and village blacksmith, Harry is actually the biological son of a cold, cruel Earl and known throughout the ton as his bastard. Tossed aside as a child and callously used by the ladies of the ton as a man, he yearns for a family of his own but has no interest in love. He has known love?s betrayal and has no desire to experience it again. Nell, the daughter of an irresponsible Earl, is reeling from unspeakable loss and from the death of her father, after his stunning betrayal. She is leery of men, for reasons known only to her and is guarding a scandalous secret she is sure will turn Harry away from her. I have already read this book twice and I know I?ll return to it again and again. Anne Gracie has created a deeply emotional, at times heart-wrenching, journey for these two people who must learn to trust one another with their deepest feelings and darkest fears. In this book, villains are vanquished, old wrongs are righted, families long torn asunder are finally mended and a miracle brings joy and hope to all. An array of secondary characters, many of whom were introduced in The Stolen Princess, only added to the pleasure of the story and, as a bonus, seamlessly woven throughout the chapters of Harry and Nell?s book is a sweet courtship involving two of my favorite secondary characters from this series. His Captive Lady will be released September 2nd.
