    Biography

A pediatrician with thirty-two years of experience, Marc Weissbluth, M.D., is also a leading researcher on sleep and children. He founded the original Sleep Disorders Center at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and is a professor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Dr. Weissbluth discovered that sleep is linked to temperament and that sleeping problems are related to infant colic. His landmark seven-year study on the development and disappearance of naps highlighted the importance of daytime sleep. In addition to his own research, he has written about sleep problems in manuals of pediatrics, lectured extensively to parent groups, and appeared on Oprah. Dr. Weissbluth has four sons, two grandsons, and, thankfully, one granddaughter–and they are all good sleepers. Linda, his wife of more than forty years, has provided both inspiration and original ideas for this book.

February 08, 2010: I have given this book to every friend that has given birth since my son was born in 1998. My husband has asked for the title or book for work associates with newborns at least half a dozen times in this past decade. It teaches a child how to console himself to sleep, which helps him grow into a self confident and rested tween and beyond.By the time my son was 5 years old, he was looking at the clock and asking to go to bed; and my son was born with speech delay,so communication wasn't easy. This book is great for infants, but if you have a toddler or 6 year old, or 10 year old that doesn't seem to have good sleep patterns, the method can be adapted at any age. Dr. Weissbluth covers birth to 12 or 14 years in this book, and that is helpful for our pre-teens too. Consider this a MUST for all new moms. We implemented the procedure when my son was 3 mos. old, it took less than 3 days to get on a sleep schedule, and he's slept solidly and woken up rested ever since. This is a find for new parents!

November 15, 2009: Information in the book is well organized and has proven effective on my grandchildren. My daughters swear by the book, and I've given it to many new parents. Written by a practicing pediatrician.
