    Biography

A pediatrician with thirty-two years of experience, Marc Weissbluth, M.D., is also a leading researcher on sleep and children. He founded the original Sleep Disorders Center at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and is a professor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Dr. Weissbluth discovered that sleep is linked to temperament and that sleeping problems are related to infant colic. His landmark seven-year study on the development and disappearance of naps highlighted the importance of daytime sleep. In addition to his own research, he has written about sleep problems in manuals of pediatrics, lectured extensively to parent groups, and appeared on Oprah. Dr. Weissbluth has four sons, two grandsons, and, thankfully, one granddaughter–and they are all good sleepers. Linda, his wife of more than forty years, has provided both inspiration and original ideas for this book.

October 26, 2009: This book was full of information that I started to use that very night. It has changed my life and the life of my 9 month old. She now goes to bed anytime after 6:30 that she starts to act tired or by 8:00 for sure. She use to take a little cat nap at night around 7 then be awake until 11. I have already given a copy of the book to a friend.

September 20, 2009: If you are seeking background knowledge in order to help your child sleep better, this should be your go-to book. This is in my Top 3 (along with Baby 411 and Happiest Baby on the Block). It tailors the approach depending on what type of parent you are as well. This really helped me understand my newborn's sleep cycles, habits and abilities and explained why Babywise just wasn't working out for us. It also explained that feeding schedules have zip-zero to do with a baby sleeping through the night, but rather shows that consistent napping (also a component of BW) is the real technique for helping your baby have a restful night of sleep. There are about 1001 frustrating newborn reasons that you won't be able to stick to a feeding schedule, so don't let anyone make you feel bad if a feeding schedule just isn't working out. Buy this book and learn how it really works. While the BW crew is pulling their hair out trying to make a baby eat/sleep on cue, you'll have the real tricks figured out.
