Biography

A pediatrician with thirty-two years of experience, Marc Weissbluth, M.D., is also a leading researcher on sleep and children. He founded the original Sleep Disorders Center at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and is a professor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Dr. Weissbluth discovered that sleep is linked to temperament and that sleeping problems are related to infant colic. His landmark seven-year study on the development and disappearance of naps highlighted the importance of daytime sleep. In addition to his own research, he has written about sleep problems in manuals of pediatrics, lectured extensively to parent groups, and appeared on Oprah. Dr. Weissbluth has four sons, two grandsons, and, thankfully, one granddaughter–and they are all good sleepers. Linda, his wife of more than forty years, has provided both inspiration and original ideas for this book.

May 19, 2008: I purchased this book when I was having a hard time getting my 7 month old daughter to stay asleep. We had just transitioned her to a crib and she was getting up multiple times during the night and talking sporadic naps all day. This book was recommended to me by the mother of twins who was told this book is 'the bible' for mothers of twins. It works well for those of us who don't have twins as well! My daughter now sleeps through the night and has good naps throughout the day. The system can be hard to follow as you will need to sacrifice constant social outings to help your kids sleep, but the concept is logical and helpful, which is something I appreciate. I appreciate the author's detailed explanation as to the importance of sleep and the age-by-age chapters. The only thing I recommend is that you read every chapter on the different age groups as the author refers to techniques and methods as though you've read every chapter. I initially started jumping around as I have two children who have a large age gap, but then I had to go back and read the in-between chapters as well. Overall, an excellent book and I would definitely recommend to anyone!!

February 01, 2008: I am a new mother of TWINS and my babies are now 8 months old and have been sleeping through the night since they were 3 months old(my husband swears it was 2 months). I credit Dr. Weisbluth and this book. He knows what he is talking about. I have recommended it to so many of my friends and I am giving it as shower gifts!! If you purchase any book during your pregnancy or first few weeks home this is the one to get! Yes, they will sleep through the night and so will YOU.
