Dr. Jerry Kartzinel and Jenny McCarthy have put together the first book that will give parents all the necessary information about the Defeat Autism Now (DAN) school of treating autism. Beginning with diagnosis, Dr. Kartzinel will show parents how to make simple changes to their child’s environment and diet that are safe and easy for parents to try at home and that can result in marked improvements for autistic children. He will also explain some of the more advanced therapies that DAN doctors use and the way that parents, alongside a qualified medical professional, can determine whether or not such treatments would benefit their child.

August 01, 2009: Our youngest son (age 10) has an Aspergers diagnosis and is currently working with several therapists. My husband purchased this book and found it very informative and helpful our son saw it and was very offended by the idea that he needed to be "cured" from something...he said it made him angry and that he didn't need to be "cured" he just needed some help learning how to manage himself but that he was "just him" and wouldn't want to be any different. I was really surprised by his comments, very adult comments for a 10 year old boy, but I have ready that there are many adults with Aspergers who feel the same way. However I think there are alot of good points made by this book and really great information for new parents especially. I think that in some cases Autism spectrum disorders are genetic but in a vast number of cases are preventable and are caused by an outside source after birth. All in all a really great read for any parent.

July 02, 2009: This book has great info on the problems that kids with autism can (and many do) have. It offers ideas on how to cope with them as well as guidelines for treatment. It is also a wonderful way to implement biomedical intervention on your own if you can't afford to see a DAN! doctor. I am so disappointed in other reviewers who say Jenny claims that autism can be cured - she does not. She says "RECOVERED" and because these things have not worked (because they perhaps were not properly implemented?) it is sad that people attack. Also, Dr. Kartzinel is an MD - he's a pediatrician who is implementing these very principals not only on his own son but also, on the patients he sees. This is not a "look at me I fixed my son" for Jenny. She is trying to help the rest of us who know that our children can get (and do) get better! PLEASE read this book and REALLY try what is suggested whole-heartedly; it definitely won't work if you "cheat" on the diet or don't give things a proper time frame to see results. This is an EXCELLENT reference book!!!!!!!
