Synopsis

The eagerly anticipated sequel to the astounding smash hit Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is finally here! No need to wait — Harry's back for his second year at Hogwarts, where the infamous Chamber of Secrets has been opened for the first time in 50 years. The monster that is unleashed is literally petrifying Hogwarts students (turning them into stone, that is), and who is the primary suspect? Harry Potter himself. Add to this some enormous spiders, a Deathday Party, a ghost named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom, and lots and lots of suspense, and you'll soon find yourself engrossed in another terrific tale in which magic does exist and good eventually triumphs over evil.

Annotation

When the Chamber of Secrets is opened again at the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, second-year student Harry Potter finds himself in danger from a dark power that has once more been released on the school.

Children's Literature

In this eagerly awaited sequel to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter returns for his second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry after surviving a dreadful summer with his muggle/human relatives the Dursleys. Harry, along with his friends Ron and Hermione, confronts another mystery involving an evil force emanating from a chamber of secrets below the school. Clues include a flying car, a book written in invisible ink that takes Harry into the past, and a ghost in a bathroom. To solve the mystery and save the school from closure and Hagrid from jail, Harry must confront his long feared nemesis Voldemort. Children and adults alike will revel in this splendid continuation of Harry Potter's adventures.

January 17, 2008: The title of this book is called Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The author is J.K Rowling. The main characters are Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Tom Riddle. Harry is more than anxious to use magic. Ron isn?t much of a learning type. Hermione is more than ready to learn. Tom Riddle is one of the last characters and is very tricky. The problem in this book is the chamber of secrets has been opened , but it doesn?t end in an all good way. I think the message trying to be said in this book is bad things can happen at any time ,but that bad thing must be solved. For example, Ginny Weasley was seduced to do something wrong, but she solved it by telling everyone. This book has got to be the best book in it?s series. I really liked how this book used fictional magic. I think the author could do nothing to make this book better. For example, this book has a lot of happy moments. I would always recommend this book to a friend. The reader that might like this book is probably the adventurous type. That?s my report on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Jim Dale is not a good choiceby Anonymous

December 18, 2007: I am rating the reading here, NOT the book. I love ALL the HP books. However.........especially after hearing Stephen Fry's reading of HP and the Philosopher's Stone, Jim Dale's performance is a real disappointment. In many places, his reading does not even match the obvious novelistic equivalent of a stage direction. For example, the book may read '...he said hotly,' but Jim Dale doesn't read it hotly! It's ridiculous at times. His Harry-voice sounds like his version of a little girl, lisping and breathless. I have read the book, of course, and I love them all. But this reading is annoyingly bad.
