Synopsis

The eagerly anticipated sequel to the astounding smash hit Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is finally here! No need to wait — Harry's back for his second year at Hogwarts, where the infamous Chamber of Secrets has been opened for the first time in 50 years. The monster that is unleashed is literally petrifying Hogwarts students (turning them into stone, that is), and who is the primary suspect? Harry Potter himself. Add to this some enormous spiders, a Deathday Party, a ghost named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom, and lots and lots of suspense, and you'll soon find yourself engrossed in another terrific tale in which magic does exist and good eventually triumphs over evil.

Annotation

When the Chamber of Secrets is opened again at the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, second-year student Harry Potter finds himself in danger from a dark power that has once more been released on the school.

Children's Literature

In this eagerly awaited sequel to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter returns for his second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry after surviving a dreadful summer with his muggle/human relatives the Dursleys. Harry, along with his friends Ron and Hermione, confronts another mystery involving an evil force emanating from a chamber of secrets below the school. Clues include a flying car, a book written in invisible ink that takes Harry into the past, and a ghost in a bathroom. To solve the mystery and save the school from closure and Hagrid from jail, Harry must confront his long feared nemesis Voldemort. Children and adults alike will revel in this splendid continuation of Harry Potter's adventures.

July 03, 2009: What to day about the Harry Potter books that hasn't already been said? Everyone will find something they enjoy in these books, as they are really hard to hate. Who knows how many avid readers these books have inspired? I've read this series multiple times throughout my childhood, and even thought the series is amazing overall, this one particular book has always been my least favorite. I don't know why.

I Also Recommend: Airborn, Stormbreaker (Alex Rider Series #1), Eragon (Inheritance Cycle #1), Artemis Fowl, Peter and the Starcatchers (Starcatchers Series #1).

June 29, 2009: I don't think there is much to say about the Harry Potter books that hasn't already been said... That being said, I am 20-something years old and a huge fan. I have seen all the movies a bunch of times and decided I should read the books. They are great and a lot better than the movies! This book is a lot more detailed than the movie and has more adult themes than the first book. It is so fun! Definitely a book for all ages!
