One evening Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight. But there wasn't any moon, and Harold needed a moon for a walk in the moonlight. Fortunately, he had brought his purple crayon. So he drew a moon. He also needed something to walk on. So he drew a path...
And thus begins one of the most imaginative and enchanting adventures in all of children's books. The creative concept behind this beloved story has intrigued children and kept them absorbed for generations, as page by page unfolds the dramatic and clever adventures of Harold and his purple crayon.
Harold goes for an adventurous walk in the moonlight with his purple crayon.
An ingenious and original picture story in which a small boy out for a walk--happily with crayon in hand--draws himself some wonderful adventures. A little book that will be loved.

November 02, 2009: Harold is cute, sweet and adorable. The illustrations, or I should say the lines that Harold draws with his crayon go on into the next page and continue on like a cloud, light and fluffy. It kind of takes me to never, never, land. Harold is so happy go lucky with his Crayon and is fun and inviting. A fresh breath of fresh air as Harold takes us into a world of imagination. What will Harold draw next? It reminds me when I drew a rabbit family on the wall when I was a child. My father said it was okay for each of us six kids to color on the wall as he was getting ready to paint it. Harold reminds me of days gone by. Whimsical and with a free spirit the author was ingenious with this idea.
It is a cute little book that every child should have in their collection.I give this book a two thumbs up! Go Harold!Reader Rating:

June 30, 2009: My daughter (a young mother) discovered this book as part of a recommended reading list for an Elementary Education class. It's a wonderful story about a little boy who creates his world with his purple crayon as he goes along. The illustrations are simple but effective. My daughter shared the book with me and I liked it so much I bought a copy for her and another to have at my home. My 3-year-old grandson loves it; it's one of his favorite books. (As a lifelong avid reader, I have more books at my home than toys for my grandchildren!)
