The phenomenon of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s achieved unprecedented heights of creativity, producing some of America's finest and most daring writers, actors, musicians, and artists. There are also photographs of the artists and other Harlem notables by Carl Van Vechten, a White patron of the Renaissance.
