      Children's Literature

Girls in their pre-teens will find this book to be right on track with their health concerns and feelings as they enter into the complexities of puberty. Author Jukes discusses tampons, shaving, body changes, and everything in between. Packed with wisdom and humor, this book is sure to be a hit for a generation surrounded with myths about the process of growing up. It answers honestly all those questions you're too embarrassed to ask, while offering reassurance that what is happening is a normal part of growing up. Jukes also offers an encouraging hand to parents and teachers, who have no idea of how to discuss these very sensitive and personal issues with the adolescent girls in their lives. This may be the only book you'll ever need to cope with this turbulent stage of life.

July 23, 2009: Almost every girl likes to know what it would be like to go through puberty, and this book tells a girl everything she will need to know during her daily life. I think it is the perfect book for girls between the ages of 9-12.

June 20, 2008: I was told about 'The Period Book' from a friend. She had her daughter read it at age 8. I went to Barnes & Noble to buy it for my 11 year old but while I was there I found 'Growing Up'. I sat and studied both books, trying to decide which one I wanted to get. I'm sure she would of understood the concept of the 'The Period Book', however I liked the way 'Growing Up' was written. It has good little girlish clip arts and discriptions. I think she will get more out of 'Growing Up'. Since she is home on summer vacation I'm making her read a chapter a day (the chapters are only about 3 pages).
