I was told about 'The Period Book' from a friend. She had her daughter read it at age 8. I went to Barnes & Noble to buy it for my 11 year old but while I was there I found 'Growing Up'. I sat and studied both books, trying to decide which one I wanted to get. I'm sure she would of understood the concept of the 'The Period Book', however I liked the way 'Growing Up' was written. It has good little girlish clip arts and discriptions. I think she will get more out of 'Growing Up'. Since she is home on summer vacation I'm making her read a chapter a day (the chapters are only about 3 pages).
