      Synopsis

All you need to create your own great hair style at home!

Vetica preaches that professional techniques are not difficult; readers just need to know what to do and follow directions. In this ultimate hair styling book, he delivers to the reader all they need to know to create great hair at home or direct a professional stylist. He reveals insider secrets and techniques for recreating magazine and celebrity hairstyles, and how to adapt the look for the average reader’s tools and time constraints.

The book is divided into three parts; 1. hair treatment and care, 2. hair cutting and styling techniques and 3. how to find a look for your faces structure and personal  style. Even beginners will be able to style their hair like a pro while professional stylists can fine tune their skills with Vetica’s secrets and shortcuts. Step-by-step diagrams and photos illustrate different styles and how to work with tools of the trade such as curling irons, hair clips, and blow dryers. Before-and-after photos show readers the best hairstyles based on face shape, bone structure, type of hair, age, and personal style. Vetica peppers all of the techniques with his experience and insights gained from working with Hollywood’s top celebrities.

Meagan P. Storey - Library Journal

Marie Claire Hair and Good to Great Hair both provide innovative hair designs and insights from top stylists in beautifully designed texts. Of the two, Vetica's book is more accessible and truly delivers clear, step-by-step instructions. Vetica has more than 30 years of experience, including a roster of celebrity beauty and fashion icons as clients. While a bit heavy on autobiography, his book includes makeovers for women of various ages and hair types and translates high glamour and special-event hairstyles for nonprofessionals. Readers looking for more everyday, straightforward hair-care information and advice are even better served by Nick Arrojo's Great Hair: Secrets to Looking Fabulous and Feeling Beautiful Everyday. Though it includes quick, general tips about hair care and style, Milgram's book seems more appropriate for professionals and is only recommended for special collections or for large public libraries where similar titles circulate widely. Good to Great, on the other hand, is suitable for a general audience owing to its celebrity appeal and more practical approach.

A BEAUTY OF A BOOKby GailCooke

March 08, 2009: Here's a beauty of a book with a bounty of hair care and styling advice. As we all know there are beaucoup books on the market all with the promise of making us look better, younger, slimmer, etc. But I've not run across few authors who bring the wealth of training and experience to his/her craft that Robert Vetica does.

Some 14 years ago he arrived in Hollywood from Milan, Italy where as he puts it "Milan was my high school, university, and graduate school. I came out of that experience with what I believe is a doctorate in hair..." Indeed he did and he shares his knowledge in a gorgeous volume filled with do's, don't's, how-tos, and must-haves.

To Vetica's credit he does not try to make you look like someone you are not. What he does is teach us how to work with the hair that we have in order to look not better but our best. He considers face shape, hair texture, and the appropriate products for each individual (No, you do not need a ton of them).

He is totally honest and disabused me of some notions I've cherished for years, such as the fact that the squeaky-clean feeling for hair is not what we want and no, you don't need to and should not wash your hair every day even if you work out.

The photography in Good To Great Hair is magnificent plus. Not only is it gorgeous but there are can't-do-without shots that show precisely how to hold the dryer and brush for a specific style.

I was amazed at the difference in a friend when she followed just one of Vetica's tips, which was "At a certain age, I believe that a woman's hair looks best away from her face." He also added that if you had to have bangs, move the direction of the bangs away from you face. Simple? Yes, but the difference in her appearance was amazing.

Vetica has an A-List client roster from Salma Hayek to Debra Messing to Renee Zellweger, and no wonder. Obviously he wants women to look their best and really likes them. After reading Good To Great Hair his affection will be reciprocated by many.
