Phoebe, who recently discovered she's a descendant of Nike (the goddess, not the shoe), is finding that supernatural powers come with a crazy learning curve. Her stepfather, headmaster of the Academy for descendants of the Greek gods, has enrolled her at Dynamotheos Development Campaka Goddess Boot Campwith a bunch of ten-year-olds for the summer. Embarrassing as that is, hopefully it'll help her gain control over her powers in time to pass the test of the gods, continue training hard enough to qualify for the Pythian Games, and enjoy her godly boyfriend, Griffin, all while avoiding the ultimate mistake of accidentally misusing powers.
It's another fast-paced myth-inspired heroine's quest that's sure to bring out the goddess in anyone.
This is the sequel to Oh. My. Gods. and I recommend that readers new to the series begin with that book. There is a great deal of background information given in the first bookand not this onethat will help the reader better understand the main character, Phoebe. Here, the girl is at a top-secret academy on the island of Serfopoula in Greece because her mother has fallen in love with the headmaster. The academy is actually a high school for teens who are descendants of gods and goddesses. Phoebe has a lot to digest with her new situation. She is not sure she will be able to get along with her stepsister. Also, her new stepfather forgot to tell her that there would be ten-year-old kids in the high school. If that is not enough, Phoebe is worried about losing her boyfriend. To top it off, she will have to pass a test given to her by the gods. I have never been into mythical novels, but this one is different. I enjoyed the writing and could empathize with what Phoebe was going through. It is not easy to learn how to control new powers. How would you like it if what you were thinking sometimes actually happened, really? This is going to be a very successful series. Those who love Harry Potter might enjoy this series just as much. This book is well-written, thought-provoking, and super interesting. Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
More Reviews and RecommendationsTera Lynn Childs is the author of the prequel to Goddess Boot Camp, Oh. My. Gods., and lives in Houston, Texas. She started her writing career as a romance writer, but followed her movie preferences to the teen side of things and discovered YA fiction, where she's still bringing the romance.

August 08, 2009: goddess boot camp carries on with the tradition of fluffy cuteness in oh. my. gods., dangling Greek mythology in front of me but it still dangles from afar. No high school frivolities that I love so much; instead, this takes place during summer break with fewer character appearances. The core group is present, but we barely see Phoebe's friends as we do her enemies (or not-so-favorite people). Can I mention that I cried like a silly schoolgirl when Griffin and Phoebe duked it out? :( I hate misunderstandings! They suck!
I thought it was interesting to read about the different godly powers that Phoebe had to master and how exactly these were executed to test her skills. The boot camp final skills test was a little hard to follow at times, but it was okay as far as tests can go for main characters. :) Especially since goddess boot camp does not promise anything but cuteness!I wish there had been a tiny bit more story with Phoebe's father - goddess boot camp definitely opens a whole new can of worms in regards to this, but the ending totally leaves you hanging! It makes me wonder, if there is a 3rd book, if the impossible could happen. Then again, this is more fluffy than serious and the impossible would fall under the not-so-cute but it may make the series even more mythologically amazing!
