March 10, 2009: Any fan of the pin-ups of old or simply playful and attractive images of women will enjoy this book. Far from being in poor taste, Gil Elvgren's advertising art featuring wholesome, attractive images of young women was always done with great skill and appreciation for the subject. Also provided a healthy dose of inspiration for countless fighter and bomber aircraft "nose art" decoration during the second world war. Excellent historical background is also provided that gives insight to Mr. Elvgren's development of style and technique. This book was an impulse purchase that developed into a really nice surprise once I had time to sit down and read it. And you know what, it's tasteful enough to leave out on the coffee table without fear of offending. Highest recommendation!

October 03, 2000: I just started to collect information about the artist, Gil Elvgren. I recently purchased the Gil Elvgren Book; 'Gil Elvgren: And His Glorious American Pin-ups' and I must say that I highly recommend this book to any or all pin-up art lovers/collectors and add this one to your library. It is a book to treasure for years and years to come. As a figurative artist myself and though I have been drawing and painting women for several years, I still find true inspiration in Gil's works over and over again. Seeing is believing, so if anybody is reading this message, please believe me when I say that Gil Elvgren is a 'true phenomenal artistic legend'. Peace, Jon Hul, (10/03/00)
