    Synopsis

The year is 1950, and in a small town on Cape Cod twenty-six-year-old librarian Peggy Cort feels like love and life have stood her up. Until the day James Carlson Sweatt–the “over-tall” eleven-year-old boy who’s the talk of the town–walks into her library and changes her life forever. Two misfits whose lonely paths cross at the circulation desk, Peggy and James are odd candidates for friendship, but nevertheless they soon find their lives entwined in ways that neither one could have predicted. In James, Peggy discovers the one person who’s ever really understood her, and as he grows–six foot five at age twelve, then seven feet, then eight–so does her heart and their most singular romance.

July 13, 2008: Sometimes there are books that are overrated, this one however should've won every award out there. It is a touching story and even though it is sad at times there s always that hope that Peggy - the narrator and one of the main characters - will make the 'Giant' happy. I think it was written by somebody who truly can put into words what genuine love is and is also familiar with what it means to feel isolated from society.Read it !

June 01, 2002: I picked up this book on a whim, having never heard of the author or the book itself. I had no expectations and I was amazed with how engrossed I became. It is truly a unique love story and every page was beautifully written. I rate it very high on my list of favorite books.
