March 16, 2009: This is a good book to reference when collecting gemstones. It has really good photos with a true to color of the gemstones and minerals for collectors to compare to what they have. Would have liked it better if it had a little more detail on some of the stones with a "what you need to know" to buy and better identify the stones, but worth the money when you need more understanding of the gemstones and where they come from and the ballpark figure of their value.

Whether a novice of seasoned professional this book will provide answers in a clear and concicse way. It is also excellent visually and a pleasant book to simply hold and peruse. As a seasoned jeweler, it is an easy to read book that goes back to basics.
