Description:This thorough textbook covers basic veterinary clinical pathology concepts. This edition includes more images and color plates.
Purpose:The purpose is to explain the physiological, pathological, and analytical conditions or disorders responsible for abnormal laboratory data. These are worthy objectives and essential in teaching veterinary students and training residents.
Audience:Veterinary students, practicing veterinarians, and clinical pathology residents are the intended audience.
Features:The book covers all areas of clinical pathology including clinical chemistry, hematology, blood gas, protein electrophoresis, and quality assurance. Aspects of cytology and bone marrow examination are new to this edition. The figures are one of the book's best features because they truly assist students in understanding the underlying mechanism of a process. Additional color plates have been added to this edition, which make the book more useful. The outline format may not be a good learning tool for all students, but the level of detail and information in the outline is appropriate.
Assessment:This is a useful book for veterinary students, residents, and practitioners. Although the content is comparable to other texts, the level of detail is greater. The authors have made significant improvements in this new edition with the addition of a chapter on bone marrow and lymphoid tissue and the additional color plates.
