      Synopsis

The Valentine's Day Party has begun at last, but Franklin lost his cards on the way to school. As his pile of valentines begins to grow. Franklin feels bad that he has none to give in return. But in the true spirit of the day, everyone assures Franklin they don't need a valentine to know they're his friends.

      Children's Literature

Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark have created another fabulous Franklin book. This time, Franklin and his woodland friends are eagerly awaiting their impending classroom Valentine's Day party. When the time finally comes and Mr. Owl calls for everyone to distribute valentine's, Franklin is shocked to discover that his are nowhere to be found. A dismayed Franklin discovers that even though he has no valentine's to give, his friends are sympathetic of his predicament. Because of the understanding of his friends, Franklin enjoys the Valentine's Day cards and the treats that he receives. Wanting to return this kindness to his pals, Franklin invents a new holiday the next day that can easily be celebrated anytime of the year. He makes and hands out cards for Friendship Day. A cornerstone to many "Franklin" books is a subtle, important lesson about the kindness and understanding of friends. This is no exception.

March 31, 2009: A very heartwarming story. Teaches children that you can love people for themselves and not for the things they give. Shows them how to be a true friend.
