June 06, 2009: A book that makes you think about the way we treat people and how deeply it affects them. To be born less than perfect doesnt mean less valuable. We need to treat every one with respect and kindness knowing we all matter. We all learn from each other no matter who we are. I was left gratefull that I take the time to try and let people know that they matter. We are all the same...... human. I also think to loose what we have be it mental or physical from age or disease or for any reason is very hard. People need to have compassion. How would we feel if someone we loved was the one who was less than so callled perfect?

June 01, 2009: Daniel Keyes studied psychology in Brooklyn College, and you sure can tell in Flowers for Algernon! It's about a mentally challenged man who is in love with his teacher and wants to be smart. So he agrees to have an experimental surgery. Charlie Gordon, a 35-year-old man, is an endearing character. I think anyone will like it. Daniel Keyes has 6 other books about medical problems; they are: The Touch, The Fifth Sally, The Minds of Billy Milligan, The Milligan Wars, Unveiling Claudia and Algernon, Charlie and I.

This book teaches the lesson that events in the past can influence a person later in life. I think Flowers for Algernon should be rated 5 stars. It takes place in New York City. The lesson is also that experimental surgery can have its advantages and disadvantages. I think the main lesson is that no matter your smarts, your hair, your weight, or your gender, sometimes you're better off as you were.

I think the author did well; he seemed like he was in a mentally challenged man's mind- like he was Charlie. Daniel Keyes seemed to get the point across. The vocabulary was bad; most of the word were spelled wrong, but this is intentional because he is mentally challenged. For example Charlie writes," Dr. Strauss says I shud rite down what I think and evrey thing that happins to me from now on". I think the story has a good point and is very well-scripted. You can learn a lot about Charlie by the way he writes. I felt sorry for Charlie. I would really recommend it!
