November 23, 2009: The 2010 Fiske Guide is well-organized and easy to read. It contains pertinent, up-to-date information on every college our two older children could possibly be interested in. Each college within the guide has 2-3 pages of text describing the general feel of the campus and its environs, a "snapshot" of the typical student attracted to the college, popular majors, and extracurricular and social opportunities. There is boxed data for each school detailing enrollment, male/female ratio, average SAT/ACT scores and financial issues. There is also a 5-point rating system for academics, social life and overall quality of life at each school along with a quick reference to important application info. Overall, we got more data out of this quide than any other we purchased. A definite must have for high school juniors and seniors!

August 22, 2009: This guide is the best I've found to help high school juniors and seniors learn about some of the best colleges in the nation. It is necessarily limited because it cannot review every college, but the colleges it reviews are represented clearly and well. A reseracher would find only one or two state colleges, no community or techincal colleges, and many private and prestigious institutions. The colleges it reviews are reviewed thoroughly, giving perspectives of students, the colleges themselves, and parents. It also has a useful "know yourself" survey to help students know what they want in a college. This helps limit their choices and the time to examine the colleges chosen. Overall, while somewhat limited, it is a highly reliable guide for students wishing to attend one of the better colleges in the U.S.
