I think that this new edition is well organized. In addition to having a lot of high yield facts, it presents a lot of valuable information and advice on other books. It is a very good source of information on the step 2 examination.
A must for the USMLE Step 2! This key resource in the popular First Aid series is packed with information likely to be tested plus exam preparation and test-taking strategies needed for the Step 2 exam. The Fourth Edition features over 200 illustrations, completely revised high-yield facts for each subject tested, quick reviews of relevant basic science concepts, the latest statistics on Step 2 pass rates, current ratings of test preparation resources, and vignette-style questions with answers, all in the unbeatable First Aid format.

Description: This book is perfect for the purpose of general review for the USMLE Step 2. The content is appropriate, and although some areas are stronger than others, they do a good job of incorporating the essentials. The previous edition was published in 2001.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an exam prep guide for USMLE Step 2. This is a worthy objective, and this is a resource needed by all students completing medical school in the U.S.
Audience: The book is written for students. The authors have varying levels of credentials, and some will carry more weight than others. They have all completed this exam however, and therefore are all qualified.
Features: The book covers all the sections of clinical science covered in a typical third year of medical school in the U.S. The best thing about this book is "the bang for your buck." It is targeted and concise in every section. The side notes with very high yield information are the best feature. The clinical images are helpful. The shortcomings include a lack of basic science review that is relevant in the clinical setting. A bit more of the preclinical primer sections would be good. The cardiology section should also have a more in-depth look at murmurs.
Assessment: Although there are other review books, this one was all I needed to feel comfortable the day of my exam. Supplemented with practice questions, this book is an excellent resource. New editions are necessary to keep up with medical advances and new standards of care.
