February 10, 2006: The best book I have evr read about film directing is the 3 chapters in the Dov Simens book, 'FROM REEL TO DEAL', although his book covers Filmmaking A-Z in his 51 chapters the 3 that are specifically about how to direct are super. After those chapters I recommend reading this book on Directing A-Z. I should know I m a seasoned pro director in the commercial industry.

May 14, 2002: I would almost consider this a college text book, though it lacks the exhorbitant price tag. The book is too comprehensive to be taken in by simply reading it, at least for me, but acts as a great reference for any questions one might have as a director. The visuals are also excellent, and all elements of composition are explained thoroughly with comments on style, trends, and general preferences. If you're serious about film or video production, this book is a great investment.
