Synopsis

Gavin de Becker's landmark book The Gift Of Fear showed millions of readers how to better protect themselves from violence and unwarranted fear. Now, in Fear Less, de Becker answers the questions many Americans have been asking since September 11th:

  • Can air travel be safe?
  • What is the risk of biological or chemical attack?
  • Can the government detect and prevent future acts?
  • How can we best talk to our children about what has happened and what might happen?
  • What can we do to reduce fear and worry?
  • What specific steps can we take to reduce terrorism?
  • What are terrorists likely to do next?
  • Most simply, is everything going to be all right?

De Becker says, "Just as your imagination has placed you in frightening situations, it is now time to place yourself in empowering situations, time to see that you have a role to play, and contrary to so many TV news stories, it isnit just victim-in-waiting."

Fear Less offers specific recommendations that can enhance our national security and our individual safety ð and help put fear into perspective. Customer Rating for this product is 5 out of 5 Another Superb Book by de Becker

Gavin de Becker is, in my mind, a national hero. His books are just excellent, straightforward, down-to-earth, no nonsense, honest approaches to dealing with violence by using your street smarts and intuition. His books on protecting yourself (The Gift of Fear) and protecting children (Protecting the Gift) no doubt have saved lives, merely by getting you to think and use your common sense. In this book, he helps to calm many of the fears raised by September 11, and gives real suggestions on what you can do to help fight the war on terrorism. His writing style is honest, informative, and humorous. An effective style he uses is talking about what you think is a current event, but then revealing it to be an event which has happened in the past, sometimes many times. He opens with what you think is a portrait of the WTC terrorists, but what is actually a description of a Nazi plot against the US in the 1940s. He is very good at pointing out things you take for granted every day, from suspicious behavior to media 'scare' tactics, that you never notice or really think about. By thinking, and trusting your intuition, and knowing you can do both, you CAN feel safer and even help protect your country. Read his other books and know you can protect yourself and your children also.
