August 16, 2005: This is a book about the life and work of private investigator Johnny Lane. The initial reaction to this character is to like him, but as the story unfolds, you are shocked by the lengths at which this P.I. will go to in order to resolve a single case, no make that every case. As this story unfolds, we find that Johnny Lane is a fast thinking, smooth talking, charming and successful private investigator. He is very likeable except for the fact that he is also psychotic. The story starts with Johnny investigating a teenage runaway. As he investigates her disappearance, we the readers, come to believe that perhaps she should have run a little faster because running away might have been her best option. The next investigation is that of a young lady in search of her birth parents. Johnny locates the mother and then discovers that the birth father is someone that he is acquainted with. Throughout this book, Johnny Lane seems to be a normal guy with a normal life. He has family, friends and a girlfriend named Margo who unfortunately keeps showing up at all the wrong places and times, creating havoc for him in his cases. As you continue to read, you will notice that there are two constants in this book. One is someone dies as a result of every investigation, and the other is that Johnny always solves his cases. In my humble opinion, the author did a great job in developing these characters. Mr. Zeltserman gives you just enough twist to make this a chilling mystery that will not soon be forgotten.
