    Synopsis

Journalist Schlosser argues that the fast food industry has triggered the growth of malls in America's landscape, widened the gap between rich and poor, fueled an epidemic of obesity, and propelled American cultural imperialism abroad. He discusses facts about food production and preparation, the ingredients and taste-enhancers in the food, the chains' efforts to reel in young, susceptible consumers, and other unsettling facts.

...Schlosser is a serious and diligent reporter..." "[Fast Food Nation] is a fine piece of muckraking, alarming without beling alarmist. —The New York Times

    Facts to support Figuresby Anonymous

August 21, 2009: I read this book for my junior AP english class this summer. At first, i expected to be drowned in facts and figures that would leave me dreading the remainder of the book, but the writing was enticing and the subject itself was captivating. I learned more from this book than I would have anticipated. Although I have not drastically altered my diet, Fast Food Nation has led me to think twice before ordering fast food and has benefited me overall. A recommended read for anyone who wants an informative behind the scenes story.

August 13, 2009: I had to read this book for my senior AP English class, and it delves deeper into the fast food industry than any other book or TV program I have read or seen. Fantastic! An interesting read - never a dull moment.
