Textbook (Hardcover)
Textbook Information
The book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations.
This multiauthored book is by and for ophthalmologists and dermatologists. Most chapters are written by people from both specialties. The authors have sought to give the reader a single source of information on conditions that affect both the eye and skin. Approximately equal emphasis is given to the manifestations in each organ. This dual emphasis is useful in making specialists aware of the complete clinical pictures of such conditions and in minimizing difficulties in understanding the jargon in another medical specialty. The book has considerable usefulness for its intended audiences, clinicians in ophthalmology and dermatology as well as primary care physicians. The editors have selected chapter authors from around the U.S. with an interest in the various disorders. The frequent pairing of authors from the two specialties supports the objectives of the editors. A book on skin and eye is perfect for the use of color photographs. Many in this book are excellent, but others are of lesser quality and the color balance is quite variable. Likewise, the figures legends vary in their descriptive usefulness. The table of contents and index make the book easy to use. Most chapters have current references. Each chapter has a highlighted section called key clinical points that lists the dermatologic and ophthalmologic manifestations, differential diagnosis, diagnostic workup, management, complications, and prognosis for each condition. The chapter narrative has a similar format. At the end of the book are additional useful sections, including a chapter on the ocular side effects of dermatologic drugs, lists of differential diagnoses of oculodermal conditions, and glossaries of ophthalmic anddermatologic terminology. This book has many desirable features for clinicians who manage conditions covered in the book. It goes a long way in emphasizing the close connection between skin and eye disorders.
