Description: The authors have made substantial changes to this new edition of an undergraduate exercise physiology book in order to update information. They also have included two new chapters on the timely topics of spaceflight physiology and molecular biology as well as an interesting interviews with nine leaders in the field. The previous edition was published in 1996.
Purpose: This is a comprehensive book designed for a one-semester (but preferably a year long) undergraduate exercise physiology course. It is the most extensive book of its kind.
Audience: The book is targeted primarily at undergraduate students in exercise science but will also be an excellent resource for those working in all aspects of the exercise and wellness field. All three authors have been leaders in the field for several decades.
Features: The book covers all the basic areas in exercise physiology and the authors have done a great job tying in nutritional aspects as well as aerobic, anaerobic, and resistance training. The colorful figures and tables are excellent and are a great help to students. The authors have gone to great lengths in not only backing up their material with appropriate research information, but they have incorporated the practical information that is so useful to students.
Assessment: This excellent undergraduate book is a standard in the field. It is the best undergraduate exercise physiology book for practical information on training and on the nutritional aspects of exercise. This edition is a worthwhile update.
