This is a simplified, well written, uniquely illustrated textbook on the concepts of nuclear medicine physics, instrumentation, and other related, essential technological topics. The purpose is to assist those who need a clear, concise reference that reviews basic physics and carries them systematically through the science and principles of clinical uses of nuclear medicine technology. Numerous illustrations of concepts are utilized instead of scale models to offer a different yet more understandable scheme of the simple and complex, such as the sophisticated SPECT and PET imaging. This is an ideal starter and review book for radiology and nuclear medicine residents, nuclear medicine cardiology fellows, and nuclear medicine technology students. It is a must for the salesman getting into the nuclear medicine arena. This book offers perfectly illustrated graphics of general and nuclear physics. The unique graphics continue in chapters that explain, along with a clear and concise written explanation, quality control, radiation biology, and radiation dosimetry. With the exception of two useful tables, the last chapter on radiation safety could be more technical. This is an ideal book for an easy understanding of a gamut of nuclear medicine practices, and an excellent overall introduction. The graphic illustrations are so well done that the wording is made more concise in explaining the principles. Even though this book has the latest explanations of nuclear medicine technology instrumentation, it is unlikely that it would take the place of the more content filled, currently used Bernier's Nuclear Medicine: Technology and Techniques (Mosby-Year Book, Inc., 1997)or Chandra's Nuclear Medicine Physics: The Basics 5th edition (Williams & Wilkins, 1998). Nevertheless, it has a solid place in any nuclear medicine library.
