Synopsis

Now in its Second Edition, this concise guide highlights the key concepts and important structures of human anatomy. Its intent is to take the medical student through the dissection process quickly and efficiently. The strength of this book is in its concise format. Each chapter begins with Learning Objectives and Key Concepts, and the text features color coding to easily locate and follow dissection protocols that are presented in anatomical outlines. Includes many new illustrations to help clarify dissection instructions.

John A. McNulty

This is a concise revision of Sauerland's Grant's Dissector, 11th Edition (Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 1994) to address national trends for compression of the time allotted for gross anatomy in the curriculum. The dissector is designed as a step-by-step guide for students to complete their anatomical dissections of the human body ""in a timely fashion."" To this end, it is well organized and the instructions are easy to follow. While students of gross anatomy courses in the health sciences are the principal audience for this guide, it would be appropriate for smaller, undergraduate courses as well. A regional approach is used to accommodate most anatomy courses and the instructions follow the general procedures outlined in previous versions of the dissector. The book is formatted as an outline with specific instructions highlighted in red to separate them from the descriptive text. A minimal number of figures are included, but references to figures in five of the most popular atlases are included. Since an accompanying atlas is strongly recommended, this feature allows some flexibility in the choice of that atlas. Key concepts, learning objectives, and tables are included throughout the dissector to help emphasize important areas and to encourage students to learn more about each region from their text. The popularity of this dissector and the trend to teach only the most crucial information will ensure its success. This book will certainly help students and faculty make every minute in the dissection lab count.
