Synopsis

Religion tends to be a sensitive topic, and in The Essence of Christianity Feuerbach tackles the tough questions of Biblical contradictions. Tracking the pendulum shift between Christianity s anthropological background and its theological core, Feuerbach challenges conventional perceptions of the Holy Trinity. He dares to go where many in his day feared to tread, discussing the topics of creationism, celibacy, and the existence of a personal God.

Biography

The German philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach (1804-1872) had much impact on the Victorian view of religion. As a member of the Young Hegelians he critiqued Hegel s philosophy of idealism; he later joined the German Social Democratic Party, which was founded by Marx. His other works include Principles of the Philosophy of the Future and Thoughts on Death and Immorality.
