“From the outset I felt quite strongly that I wanted to celebrate the horse in its own right.” —Tim Flach, photographer
No animal has captured the human imagination quite like the horse, depicted in media from cave drawings thousands of years ago through countless renderings in paint, clay, ink, even film. Award-winning photographer Tim Flach’s quest to document the horse has resulted in Equus, an intensely moving look at an animal—as solitary subject and en masse, from the air and from underwater—whose history is so powerfully linked to our own.
From exquisite Arabians in the Royal Yards of the United Arab Emirates to purebred Icelandic horses in their glacial habitat; from the soulful gaze of a single horse’s lash-lined eye to the thundering majesty of thousands of Mustangs racing across the plains of Utah, Equus provides an amazing and unique insight into the physical dynamics and spirit of the horse.
Tim Flach is a graduate of Central Saint Martins in London, where he studied photography. He spent twenty years as a successful advertising photographer before turning to more personal work, garnering much press and many awards along the way. This is his first book.

March 31, 2009: I had gotten this book for Christmas and I was so amazed at how he captured the beauty of Equus Caballus (Scientific name for horse). This book was so entertaining. I favored all the horses and watching the horse devalop in the mother's fetus was fantastic... and to see the horse in armor was just entertaining. I love this book so much that I recommend it to all horse lovers of all kinds. It will make you have a different looks of horses.

March 17, 2009: I bought this book after purchasing TIm Flach's calendar, "Equus", and was so drawn to his photographs that I had to find out more about him. I found his gorgeous hardcover book by the same name and purchased it immediately. I spent a long time perusing the gorgeous, breathtaking photos. He captures horses like no other artist ever has before. The photographs show different angles and viewpoints of horses that show their true beauty, in their own environments. The quality of his photographs are amazing- every detail is on the page- every whisker, hair, speck of dust, and ripple of muscle. This book takes time to appreciate- you will not want to rush through it.
The book itself is a great coffee table book- large, with thick, glossy pages. Many guests have already picked up this book and have not been able to put it down. I highly recommend it, and already plan on giving copies as gifts, and will purchase the Equus calendar as long as it is produced.I Also Recommend: 2009 Equus Wall Calendar.
