    Biography

Michael T. Murray, N.D. is widely regarded as one of the world's leading authorities on natural medicine. He is a graduate, faculty member, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Murray is the co-author of A Textbook of Natural Medicine, the definitive textbook on naturopathic medicine for physicians, as well as the consumer version - Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine. He has also written over 20 other books including The Healing Power of Herbs and The Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements.
As a consultant to the health food industry, Dr. Murray has been instrumental in bringing many effective natural products to North America, including:
    ·Glucosamine sulfate
    ·St. John's wort extract
    ·Ginkgo biloba extract
    ·Silymarin
    ·Enteric coated peppermint oil
    ·Saw palmetto berry extract
For the past twenty years, Dr. Murray has been compiling a massive database of original scientific studies from the medical literature. He has personally collected over 50,000 articles from the scientific literature which provide strong evidence on the effectiveness of diet, vitamins, minerals, glandular extracts, herbs, and other natural measures in the maintenance of health and the treatment of disease. It is from this constantly expanding database that Dr. Murray provides the answers on health and healing. According to Dr. Murray: "One of the great myths about natural medicines is that they are not scientific. The fact of the matter is that for most common illnesses there is greater support in the medical literature for a natural approach than there is fordrugs or surgery."
Unfortunately, many people are not aware of the natural approach that can put them on the road to lifelong health. Michael T. Murray, N.D. has dedicated his life to educating physicians, patients, and the general public on the tremendous healing power of nature. In addition to his books, which have cumulative sales of over two million copies, Dr. Murray has written thousands of articles, appeared on hundreds of radio and TV programs, and lectured to hundreds of thousands of people nationwide.

January 17, 2007: This is an outstanding piece of work that Michael Murray has compiled! Whether you are a beginner or an expert in nutrition, you will find this book very insightful ! In this work he documents a comprehensive list of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, nutrients, and glandular extracts. Mr. Murray also elaborates on the functions and uses of each to provide sound education to the reader. My favorite part of the book is that he includes many different lists of whole food sources to obtain everything listed above. For instance, when he discusses Magnesium, he breaks down what foods have the highest magnesium content and what foods have the lowest. This is an extremely valuable source of nutritional information and I would recommend this book to everyone! - Dr. Matthew J. Loop (Author of 'Cracking the Cancer Code')

December 31, 1999: Finding the right vitamin and mineral supplements is enough to make one sick. Check any health food or drug store, and you'll be swamped by an endless array of pretty vitamin and mineral packages, sometimes with little nutritional value inside. Since many general medical practitioners have little education on nutrition, and the public has been bombarded with endless claims of vitamin and mineral superiority by clever marketing campaigns, where does one turn? Fortunately, Dr. Michael Murray, a leading alternative health doctor, has broken down, in layperson's terms, the correct combination of vitamins and minerals to take, safety factors, and dosage ranges. He even writes several chapters on accessory nutrients -- flax oil, bioflavonoids, carnitine, to name a few-- that may or may not enhance standard vitamin and mineral supplementation. Written in a lively, informative and detailed fashion, The Essential Guide for Improving Your Health Nauturally champions substance over style, as Murray sites an incredible array of studies to back his writings. In addition to writing chapters on essential vitamins and minerals, Murray addresses specific health concerns, and the supplements that may help prevent or cure them. As Murray has expertly shown in his previous masterpiece, The Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine, vitamins and minerals play an integral role in our health. As a former allergy sufferer, this reviewer has not had an attack when taking the bioflavonoid, quercetin. Murray explains expertly why quercetin has an affinity for reducing histamine (a main cause of allergies), as just one example of how alternative health can safely enhance a person's health. Most importantly, Murray discusses the most absorbable forms of vitamins and minerals. After reading his book, you will be sure to graduate to an expert label reader, and understand that many vitamins and minerals are virtually worthless. One can infer from Murray that to pay a little more might be worth better health in the long run. Yes, the book has many pages, but it's a relatively easy read. Murray has the knack to not talk down to his readers. Consequently, the consumer will better understand the intricate world of proper supplementation. After all, your health deserves more than purchasing a bottle of supplements with artificial colorings, talc, mineral oils and low quality binders. In summary, for anyone interested in health, The Essential Guide for Improving Your Health Naturally serves as a great informational supplement to health, in general. Now, put down those Hostess Twinkies and rush to your fa
