Reviewer:Carla D Johnson, BSN (Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System)
Description:This book presents an emergency nursing core curriculum intended for use by nurses preparing to take the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) exam. New topics in this updated edition include pandemic illness, end of life issues, and forensic evidence collection.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide emergency room nurses, whether new or seasoned, with information that will increase their knowledge base and skill level. Emergency nurses need this book to continue to keep up with the changes that occur constantly in this area of healthcare.
Audience:This book could be used by anyone, from students to seasoned nurses, and in fact, it contains valuable information that could be of benefit to physicians. Although intended for ER nurses, all nurses could use this book.
Features:The information is well laid out in an easy to use format, although the book needs more color art. I recently participated in a CEN seminar, but this book by far has more information of greater depth.
Assessment:This book is excellent. Reading this has increased my knowledge base 10-fold. This is an exceptional reference for anyone involved in emergency nursing.
