Two decades before the Civil War, an eight-year-old Southern heiress longs for the love of the father she has never known -- but when they meet at last, nothing is as Elsie expects. Can the proud and willful Horace Dinsmore learn to love his only child -- a little girl whose first allegiance is to God?
"Excellent for Homeschool Use"
In the 1840's, eight-year-old heiress Elsie Dinsmore has only her Christian faith and the hope of love from the father she has never met to sustain her while living on a southern plantation with relatives who care little for her and disapprove of her strong religious principles.

October 09, 2004: I LOVED this book! I have only read this book (well I have read books 2 and 3 of a different version) ,but this was excellent! I am going to ask for the 2nd and 3rd and the 4th because this one was so inspiring. Ever since I have read this book I have been trying to live a life like Elsie because I want to obey God. I am 12 and Elsie is only 8 and I can tell you she has alot deeper of a realationship with God than I do, but I know someday I will be more like God and have a deeper realtionship with HIM! I loved this book so much that I wrote a book report on it and I got and A! My mom loved it and most of my friends have read the Elsie books because they are so good! I would really recommend this book to the young and the old because Elsie is such a loving character and I don't see how her father could not love her at first! Anyhow I would definitely suggest that you go and read (or buy) this book! Enjoy!
