    Synopsis

    “Passionate…exciting…eye-opening.” —The Washington Post
Damon Pierce is a gifted California lawyer whose work is starting to seem soulless. Then, from out of nowhere, two life-altering events take place: First, Damon’s wife announces that she’s leaving him. Next: A woman from his past reappears. Damon could never forget Marissa Brand Okari, his one-time great love. Now, she’s in trouble…and Damon decides to do everything in his power to help her.

“COMPELLING AND CREDIBLE…guaranteed to rouse you to thought.”—Richmond Times-Dispatch
Marissa’s husband, Bobby Okari, is a freedom fighter in a corrupt west African nation—one that’s being torn apart by global lust for its vast supply of oil. One day, during a solar eclipse, Bobby leads a high-profile protest rally against an American oil company…only to see everyone in his home village massacred by government troops. Already an enemy of the country’s savage dictator, Bobby is promptly arrested. Now it’s up to Damon to take on Bobby’s case and save him—and Marissa—from almost certain death. And risk his own life in process.

“This stellar legal thriller both informs and entertains…WILL CLING TO READERS LONG AFTER THE FINAL PAGE IS TURNED.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

The Washington Post - Art Taylor

Eclipse aspires to be any number of books: a novel of political intrigue, an international conspiracy thriller, a courtroom drama, a romance, even a straightforward murder mystery…To Patterson's credit, the novel succeeds on all counts. While Pierce struggles to dodge the next danger barreling his way, Patterson never loses sight of the big picture: the region's history, the nuances of international law, the subtleties of oil futures trading. He brings his knowledge to the book with a sense of urgency far beyond the plot at hand, depicting complex legal issues and the larger geopolitical situation with authority and clarity.

    A Reminder Why I Read Richard North Patterson!by Booknut62

August 22, 2009: This book reminded me why I like Richard North Patterson. I was hooked on Patterson with his book Silent Witness due to his engaging and original storytelling. This book lives up to the Patterson tradition. Damon Pierce, the lawyer-hero of the book, is absolutely engaging as the main character as he tries to unravel a mystery that basically keeps the reader hooked until the final chapters of the book. Patterson continues to prove to me that he can tell a story.

I Also Recommend: Eyes of a Child (Christopher Paget Series #3), Silent Witness (Tony Lord Series #2), Balance of Power (Kerry Kilcannon Series #3).

May 18, 2009: More of a "social" indictment. Not a great novel as one would expect from Patterson.
