    Synopsis

One winter night, a cozy house full of animals is awakened by a knock at the front door. They have no idea what they'll find on the other side, and Max the duck is the last thing they expect. Soon this larger-than-life houseguest is making himself at home--and forcing his way into the hearts of his reluctant hosts.

    Child Magazine

Most ducks fly south for the winter-but not free-thinking Max. When snow falls, he takes refuge in a home already packed with pets. Rib-tickling cartoons play up the duck's new lifestyle and the friction it causes (when he hogs the remote control and whips up unpopular dishes like "Max's Seaweed Chowder"). Then spring arrives and it's time for Max to fly the coop. Will life at home ever be the same? (ages 4 to 7)
The February 2007 issue of Child magazine

June 14, 2009: This is a great series-- my 4 year old loves the books and wants to read them over and over. We also gave as a gift to another 4 year old who likes this series just as well!

May 02, 2009: I have no children, but I picked this up because I really do have ducks that peek into my back door from time to time. I found the book to be charming, with a collection of animal characters not unlike those I have known. The illustrations are cute and make the characters likeable. It has some "mystery" and suspense if you're four years old, and all together I found it a a lovely read. It prompted me to buy the other two follow up books, just to see what Max would get up to next!

I Also Recommend: Duck Soup, Duck and Cover.
