This is the fourth edition of Dr. Opie's highly praised and valuable handbook on all currently useful cardiovascular pharmacologic agents. In a newly revised up-to-date fashion, the book provides a concise description of each classification of cardiac drugs, including current usage dosage, mechanism of action, notable side effects, and drug interactions. There is even a chapter on the use of specific agents in specific disease processes. Targeted especially for students, residents, and fellows in the cardiovascular field, this book is valuable for all clinicians involved in the use of cardiovascular agents as a concise, up-to-date, thoroughly referenced manual. Because of its pocket-size format, concise and readily accessible information, and easy to follow tri-colored diagrams and tables, this book is the most useful reference text for the daily use of cardiovascular agents. Once again, Dr. Opie provides the medical field with an outstanding, concise, comprehensive, easily understandable, and highly useful book for daily use by all clinicians involved in the use of cardiovascular agents.

Description:This quick reference guide for commonly used cardiovascular medications updates the 2005 edition and includes access to an online edition.
Purpose:Cardiovascular pharmacology is always expanding and rapidly evolving, making it challenging to keep current. The authors intend this book to serve as a single, convenient, and current pharmacologic reference.
Audience:It is intended for all practitioners in the cardiovascular arena, including nursing and ancillary personnel as well as seasoned specialists.
Features:Chapters are divided by drug class and include a brief historical background on the medication as well as basic information on the targeted pathology. The text is augmented by numerous graphics detailing the mechanism of action of the drugs and charts delineating differences in medications within each class. In addition to the obligatory dosage schedule and side effect profiles, each chapter also includes indications and insight into when to choose one medication over another.
Assessment:This is a refreshing alternative to the Physicians' Desk Reference (Thomson Reuters) . The graphics are clear, concise, and helpful.
