(Hardcover)
Women all over the country and the doctors and nurses who care for them have established Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book as the standard reference on its subject. Dr. Love has now revised her book to reflect every new development in breast care, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and research. Every chapter has been brought up to date, including new information on silicone implants, imaging techniques, genetics, risk factors and prevention, hormone use, bone marrow transplants, tamoxifen, immediate reconstruction, and treatment for metastatic breast cancer.
"...a premier resource updated to include the latest infor- mation on silicone implants, the reliability of mammograms & other imaging techniques, genectics, risk factors, hormone use, prevention of breast cancer, and much more."
This second edition of Love and Lindsey's comprehensive 1990 title has been so thoroughly revised that, Love notes, only the anatomy chapter remains untouched: ``The breast, I'm glad to report, is still located on the chest!'' New information includes that on mammography screening, the breast cancer gene, the metastatic phase of breast cancer, the connection between mind and body, prevention and the importance of political awareness and action. Also updated are discussions of every conceivable aspect of the breast: from its health and development to such common concerns as normal tissue lumpiness and breast feeding, to issues surrounding breast cancer-its screening, diagnosis, causes, treatment, prevention and the directions of current research. Hormone therapy, silicone implants, breast biopsy, lumpectomy, reconstruction and bone-marrow transplants are also explained. With Lindsey (Friends as Family), Love, who is director of the Comprehensive Breast Center, associate professor of clinical surgery at UCLA School of Medicine and co-founder of the National Breast Cancer Coalition, offers a highly readable book that educates, supports and encourages women to become their own advocates of breast health. March 27, 2000: Dr. Love's book is very hepful, particularly if you've just been diagnosed with breast cancer. It's a rich, well researched and well thought-out book. She mentions Iscodor as an alternative medicine - In my experience, it really works wonders in conjunction with conventional therapies. Look into it, and read her book. It's very informative and explanatory, and helps you to make informed choices.
