It's summer vacation, the weather's great, and all the kids are having fun outside. So where's Greg Heffley? Inside his house, playing video games with the shades drawn.
Greg, a self-confessed "indoor person," is living out his ultimate summer fantasy: no responsibilities and no rules. But Greg's mom has a different vision for an ideal summer…one packed with outdoor activities and "family togetherness."
Whose vision will win out? Or will a new addition to the Heffley family change everything?
Is there a better remedy for the back-to-school doldrums than getting to see how Greg Heffley spent his summer vacation? If nothing else, the comedy of errors and indignities he suffers will make readers feel a whole lot better about any family vacation disasters of their own. In the fourth book in Kinney's bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Greg has a falling-out with his friend Rowley over a failed lawn-care business, puts up with his parents' attempts to get him out of the house (Mom organizes a book club for boys—who pick out titles like “Sudoku Insanity” and “Ultimate Video Game Cheats”) and tries to shake off the twin horrors of the murderous “muddy hand” from a horror film he watches and the terrifying sights in the men's locker room at the pool. Kinney's gift for telling, pitch-perfect details in both his writing and art remains (such as the cursive script and cutesy content of Mom's photo album captions). No reason to think kids won't devour this book as voraciously as its predecessors. Ages 8–12. (Oct.)
Jeff Kinney is an online game developer and designer and is the author of the New York Times bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. He spent his childhood in the Washington, D.C., area and moved to New England in 1995.

November 23, 2009: The book Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days by Jeff Kinney
This story is about Greg Hefley on summer vacation. The first half is spent with his friend at the country club. The next half is full of surprises. For the second half of the summer Greg's mom starts a Reading is Fun club. But that did not go so well because all the food they ordered at the country club was billed. So now Greg and his friend started a lawn service, but that did not go to well and they quit. So then, when Greg's birthday came around he lost all his money. He also got one of those kiddy phones. Towards the end of the summer his family gets a dog, and Greg decides to go to the pool. Greg is a boy in middle school who keeps a diary. Greg loves video games a real lot. Greg seems to really want a dog but his dad said no. At the family reunion /fathers day his grandfather makes his dad mad so they go home. After they get home the dad goes and gets a dog. That is a little about Greg. I liked this book because it was funny and was fun to read since it was in diary form. This story is in present time. It takes place in a suburban neighborhood. Here are some names of related books Diary of a Wimpy kid, Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Last Straw, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules. Stay tuned for Diary of a Wimpy Kid 5. Here are some ways Greg and I are connected. Greg and I both enjoy video games and we both like money. Now a real world connection, Greg has a problem with being obsessed with girls. This is typical for teenage boys. The theme of the story is how a teenage boy spends his summer vacation. In the beginning of the story he hangs out with his friend at the country club. Then he gets a dog named Sweetie. Greg and his dad finally bond at the end of the summer. I recommend reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days.I Also Recommend: The Last Straw (Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series #3), Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series #1), Rodrick Rules (Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series #2).
