    Synopsis

I'm a human sponge - I soak up memories. I feel like a thief, stealing secrets with an innocent touch. I don't like this gift. It's intrusive and sneaky. I think it's harmless, but I can't be sure. If knowledge is power, why do I feel so alone...?

The apocalypse came and the world burned. But it wasn't the end, and out of the destruction, new life has emerged. Bec is back to face the Demonata. After centuries of imprisonment, she's more powerful than ever, but the demons no longer stand alone.

Something else has crawled out of the darkness with her. Lord Loss is no longer humanity's greatest threat...

The seventh novel in the chilling Demonata series by Darren Shan, author of the New York Times bestselling Cirque Du Freak series, will terrify readers long after the last page.

    Children's Literature

Book seven in the "The Demonata" series focuses on Bec's stolen memories from Baranabus, the childhood friend she knew as Bran, and their current struggle against the Demonata. Bec thought her new life would be a second chance with Bran, but he returned to the Demonata universe to fight against Lord Loss and gain more information about the mysterious Shadow. Bec, as part of the weapon known as the Kah-Gash, was left behind with Dervish. Dervish obsessively wants to know about his deceased nephew Bill-E's memories, and Bec obliges, but hates that she has no relationships of her own. Just as she and Dervish begin to get along, the house is attacked by werewolves and Dervish is stricken with a heart attack. Once more, Darren Shan provides a fast-paced, exciting plot for his characters, full of twists and turns. Fans of both horror and urban fantasy will enjoy the series; however, graphic depictions of violence might put off some readers. Reviewer: Kathleen Foucart

    Biography

"I was born in London in 1972 and moved to Ireland when I was 6 years old, where I've lived ever since. I always wanted to be a writer - I've loved telling stories since I was a child. I started out writing books for adults, and managed to get a couple published. One day, on a whim, I decided to try a book for children. The result was Cirque Du Freak. Much to my surprise, it took off, and I became a de facto children's author! Since then I've used my ill-gotten gains to buy lots of comic-strip art and travel the world. When I'm not working or traveling, I like watching movies. I've even been known to read the odd book or two."

Darren is currently working on the terrifying, cataclysmic conclusion to the Demonata series, Hell's Heroes, coming May 2010, as well as a grisly adventure novel, The Thin Executioner, available August 2010.

April 16, 2009: As always, thrills and chills are felt in this next installment in the horrifying and gripping THE DEMONATA series.

Bec has returned, and what aches her the most, besides adapting to the newest technology of the always-changing world, is having to deal with Dervish and the miles of questions surrounding his deceased nephew, Bill-E.

Although this does frustrate Bec extremely, no time is to waste as werewolves and demons attack the house and the hospital that Dervish ends up in. They are once again reunited with Juni Swan, who escapes to a powerful ship that has the magic in aiding Dervish and Sharmila.

Arriving at the ship, the group becomes trapped, surrounded by demons and their leaders, Juni and Lord Loss, who has now embodied Cadaver. Here the battle begins, and surviving just does not seem possible at all, especially since a demon stronger than Lord Loss is now upon them.

Deeper and darker than ever, Darren Shan continues his series with the infamous gory details and action sequences. The battle continues in DEATH'S SHADOW between Dervish's clan and those serving Lord Loss, and fans will not want to miss any minute of it. Also in this installment, Beranabus' character becomes even more developed, as we get a closer look at his life before joining forces with Dervish.
