      Synopsis

      Buffy fans will go wild!

SHE WAS TARA ON BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

Now she's the author of Ace's hottest new series— killer novels featuring Calliope Reaper-Jones, who doesn't want to be daddy's little girl anymore...

Calliope Reaper-Jones so just wanted a normal life: buying designer shoes on sale, dating guys from Craig's List, web-surfing for organic dim-sum for her boss...

But when her father—who happens to be Death himself—is kidnapped, and the Devil's Protege embarks on a hostile takeover of the family business, Death, Inc., Callie returns home to assume the CEO mantle— only to discover she must complete three nearly impossible tasks in the realm of the afterlife first.

      VOYA

Calliope Reaper-Jones is toiling away as a corporate assistant when things begin to unravel in a major way. She encounters a faun in the restroom at work that forces her to remember her true identity. In a quest to live a normal life, Calliope uses a Forgetting Charm to help her lose all memory that her father is the Grim Reaper. He has been kidnapped, and she takes over the reins of Death, Incorporated, to save him. To prove her worthiness as the new CEO, she must retrieve three magical items from Hell. Adding to the challenge, the stunningly attractive "Devil's protege" also seeks the job. Calliope descends into Hell on her quest, meeting a dizzying assortment of creatures from various religions and mythologies. This first solo novel by Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Benson reads like an R-rated mash up of The Devil Wears Prada and the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. The author mixes contemporary humor with elements of mythology for excellent comedic effect. With this first book in a projected series, as often happens in series starters, the exposition bogs down the plot at times. Calliope seems to meander around the landscape of Hell endlessly, in a variety of forms. Despite this flaw, fans of urban fantasy (and of Buffy) will likely find it enjoyable to join a new, flawed (whiny and spoiled but genuinely growing throughout the book) heroine on her quest. June 29, 2009: This is a quirky fun book to read. It has interesting twists and a solid plot, wrapped up in a dysfunctional family and good hearted main character, Calliope Reaper-Jones. It's a perfect travel or vacation read.

The book recommended below are all first in the series. Enjoy the fantasy!

I Also Recommend: Moon Called (Mercy Thompson Series #1), Time Enough for Love, Succubus Blues, Storm Born (Dark Swan Series #1).
